It is vital for the health and growth of infants and young children to obtain developmental milestones in the correct sequence. Silverback Chiropractic supports families to evaluate each child’s development and implement appropriate care to support these developmental stages.
In the first consultation, we will cover a range of areas to establish a full picture of your child and their unique needs. During initial discussions we will ask a number of questions to develop an appropriate care plan for your child.
Some of the things we will ask relate to:
- Physical development stages, i.e. crawling and walking
- Diet and digestive health
- Sleeping patterns and/or difficulties
- Breastfeeding patterns and/or difficulties
- Birthing information
We will also engage with your child to complete safe and non-invasive neurological assessments, which will provide further information regarding;
- Strength and reflexes
- Breathing issues
Meeting Developmental Milestones:
Through consistent Chiropractic care we are able to support families to ensure their children are reaching each developmental milestone in the appropriate sequence. Poor spinal or oral function in infants and young children can impede vital neurological stimulation required for healthy growth in the brain and body. Chiropractic care can mitigate such disruptions to reaching developmental milestones.
Many orthodontic, behavioural and postural problems identified in infancy and early childhood can stem from shortened tongue-ties. Improper placement of the tongue can result in:
- Mouth breathing
- Sleep apnoea
- Breastfeeding issues
- Aerophagia (swallowing air) – interpreted as reflux
- Behavioural issues
Dr Adam Epskamp is qualified in the diagnosis of shortened tongue-ties. We can refer clients for Tongue-tie revision procedures and will fully support you through the post-procedure care requirements. Pre and post-revision tongue exercises will develop strength in the tongue prior to surgery and instil the confidence to continue the exercises for a short period after surgery. This ensures the tongue is significantly less likely to re-attach, identifies any other potential movement issues with the tongue, and develops better tongue flexibility; which improves long-term postural, behavioural and orthodontic outcomes for your child.
